JOINING THE BAND
Are you a musician interested in playing with us? There are lots of great reasons to join your local concert band.
Rehearsals are on Sundays from 10am-12pm at St James' Church and we have regular concerts there, at events in the local area...and beyond!
Have a look at this Q&A with clarinet player Hannah and then contact us via the online form or come along to one of our concerts!
why join?
Hannah Tankaria explains her journey to the MYCB and what she's got out of being a member!
What instrument do you play?In this band, I play B flat clarinet (I also played piano and French horn in school).
How did you find out about the band?I went to school near the rehearsal location, and my mum saw a flyer in the local area. She thought it would be good for me to play music in a group outside of school symphony orchestras so I could play different styles of music and meet more musically-minded people. What made you want to join?My mum and I attended the concert on that flyer, and the pieces were recognisable tunes that I enjoyed, so I wanted to join to play fun pieces
What are your favourite memories from your time with the band?Every Christmas concert when there are festive hats, jumpers, lights, and tinsel. It's always good when the audience sings along. There was a really beautiful summer's day for our Chestnut Sunday concert in Bushy Park years ago. My oldest friend who lived nearby came to watch, and afterwards, we had a picnic whilst watching the parade of horses and interesting-looking cars go by.
What is your favourite piece of music you've played with the band?I love the entire repertoire for the Christmas concerts!Disney music/medleys are always good fun too, such as Mary Poppins, Pirates of the Caribbean, and A Whole New World from Aladdin. Why should other people join? Most of all, the members are truly the greatest part of the band. Every break time is great to socialise with a biscuit, a cup of tea/coffee, and good chats.
